It’s a familiar lament – the good ones are always taken. It’s no different with Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan’s case because they are definitely taken with each other. And Canadian viewers are taken with these adorably naughty businessmen who happen to be design divas.

In February, the co-hosts of HGTV’s Home Heist got married after 22 years together. “If you’re not married, get married. If you’re married, get remarried. I highly recommend it,” McAllister exclaimed, as he tugged at his denim kilt.

At Canwest Global’s upfront presentation in Toronto in early summer 2008, McAllister and Ryan’s chemistry and comedic timing were in top form.

Family Guys

Before talking about the second season of Home Heist, Suite asked them if they intend to start a family. McAllister said they’ve talked about children but lamented “we don’t have geographical stability.” They divide their time between Britain and Canada. This year though one of their best friends in London is pregnant. “We’re going to be the godparents … so we’re kind of having a baby.”

Nanny 911

Ryan nodded his head. “We’d love to be dads and I think we’d be brilliant dads. I know Colin would be and I’m really sure I would be… it’s just finding the right time.” Then he laughed and added in his rich Scottish brogue, “But darling, if you’re in the mix, I’ll tell you what, baby you’d be a lovely nanny!”

Home Heist

As for what viewers can expect with Home Heist in season two, Ryan says the premise is the same: they have one week to makeover a Canadian home that is wretchedly decorated but they must work with the homeowners. Also, McAllister and Ryan have ditched the white van for a silver Mercedes. “We look like harlots!” He added, “You’ll see a marriage proposal…a birth where we just missed seeing the girl in stirrups. A man comes out of the closet.” Added McAllister, “And another goes back in.”

Holmes on Homes and Brad Pitt

At the launch, Mike Holmes (Holmes on Homes) also had homes on his mind. The TV host and expert contractor said he and his crew offered to put up one of five environmentally friendly homes that actor Brad Pitt's charitable organization (Make it Right) is building in New Orleans.

“We started corresponding with each other and I said: ‘Brad, why don't we come down there and build the first house and we won't even charge you’,” Holmes said. His efforts are captured in a documentary series titled Make It Right: New Orleans scheduled to air on HGTV and Global this fall.

Holmes on Brangelina

Holmes added he’s hoping Pitt, and perhaps Angelina Jolie, might pop by.

“I’m sure there will be a surprise visit – Angelina… would be nice to drop by, and put on a tool belt.”

Holmes appeared angry when he reminded reporters that the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina is in August and that many underprivileged neighbourhoods look as if the hurricane slammed the area yesterday.
