Singer Brandy rear-ended Honda and 38-year-old mother died. L.A. attorney will determine if celebrity will go to court
The California Highway Patrol recommended today that actress-singer Brandy Norwood be charged with misdemeanour vehicular manslaughter in a highway crash that killed a woman in December.
The investigation has been referred to the L.A. attorney’s office for review but Brandy has not been charged.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of a year and $1,000 (USD) fine.
According to KTLA evening news, prosecutors aren’t saying when they will make a decision about whether to bring a case.
Brandy has publicly expressed condolence to the victim’s family, her publicist said last week. The publicist also has said Brandy wasn't under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
Brandy was driving a Land Rover on the busy 405 Highway on December 30 when traffic slowed and she hit the back of a Honda driven by Awatef Aboudihaj, 38, a married mother of one, according to a CHP report. Aboudihaj’s car hit another car, slid sideways into the centre divider and was struck by another vehicle. She died at hospital.
Brandy, who earned a Grammy in 1999, has made five albums. She began her recording career at 14 and acted for film and television, starring on the sitcom Moesha from 1996-2001 and most recently as a judge for NBC’s America's Got Talent.
